| Anjali Rachel has been recognized as Squad Person of the Month. Anjali joined LPVRS during her sophomore year of college and is currently enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician class offered at LPVRS. Despite her academic commitments at SMCM and working, she found time to volunteer for her community. She recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Neuroscience and earned a minor in Spanish. When asked if someone should join the Rescue Squad, Anjali replied, “Folks should join the rescue squad if they want to learn basic medical skills and help their community.”
Jessica Proctor-Siler has been named Officer of the Month. Jessica joined at 42 years old in January 2022. Her cousin, Rose Proctor, a paramedic, convinced her to become a member. Jessica is currently a Lieutenant at Station 39 and has held that position for two years. She works diligently and takes pride in helping people on their worst days, making a positive impact within the Squad and the community. One of her most memorable experiences was doing a “stand by” at the last St. Mary’s County Fair, where she enjoyed meeting community members who expressed their gratitude for the Squad’s service. Jessica has five children and five grandchildren, and in her spare time, she loves listening to music. She works outside the Squad as a medical assistant and has never volunteered for another Rescue Squad before joining LPVRS. Her daughter is also a member.
No one is ever too old to join their local Rescue Squad or Fire Department. Reach out to learn how you can get involved, whether it’s on the active side, as an associate, or through the auxiliary. If you do not want to join but still wish to help, keep an eye on their website for opportunities to donate cakes to auctions, purchase raffle tickets, or contribute to a brown bag auction. Every contribution, no matter how small it may seem, makes a significant difference. |
