| Nina Deceuninckvancapelle, Squad Person of the Month and Tracey Byrne, Officer of the Month
Nina became a member of LPVRS in January 2026 and is currently enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician class. Reflecting on her experience with LPVRS so far, Nina shared, “I feel like I’ve already become part of a huge family and I’m happy to have all their support.” Prior to joining, she attended CSM for her ASN and earned her RN in May 2025. Nina has also been a member of LVRS since January 2025. Her interest in EMS and emergency environments has always been strong, but she never thought she had the time or the opportunity to pursue this path until a classmate encouraged her to consider joining. Outside the demands of healthcare, Nina enjoys arts and crafts, crocheting, and exploring new interests whenever she has the chance. Professionally, Nina has worked as a Student Nurse Extern in the Emergency Room and later as a Registered Nurse on a Telemetry unit. She is now pursuing a career as a travel nurse. When asked if she would recommend joining a local volunteer rescue squad, Nina expressed without hesitation, “Of course I would tell them I think they should give it a chance! There is nothing more rewarding and honoring than serving your community in such a crucial way.”
Tracey joined LPVRS in 2013, following two years as a member of MVRS. She currently serves as the squad’s treasurer, a role she has held for six years, fulfilling all the responsibilities required of the position. In addition to her role as treasurer, Tracey is the Quality Assurance Officer and Patient Care Training Officer. She considers one of her greatest achievements to be helping the next generation of EMTs develop their skills and confidence. Tracey’s favorite part of being a member is providing care to patients. She joined the organization at the age of 43, inspired by her partner Lori Marsh after her niece experienced a seizure during a family dinner. In her spare time, Tracey enjoys gardening. When asked what advice she would give her younger self, she said, “Be kind to yourself as you are to others.” On the impact of volunteering, she shared, “It’s the most fulfilling thing I’ve ever done in my life.” Although her mother was a nurse, Tracey did not volunteer during high school.
Anyone wanting to join LPVRS or any volunteer organization, go to their website and fill out an application. Volunteers are always welcome, pending application approval
