| LPVRS announces that David Fletcher has been named Squad Member of the Month, and Bridget Wimberly has been selected as Officer of the Month. Both members have demonstrated outstanding dedication and have gone above and beyond in their service, earning nominations from their peers.
David Fletcher joined the rescue squad in August 2024 at the age of 63. His decision to join was inspired by the compassionate care EMS professionals provided to his family after the passing of his brother-in-law in North Carolina. David was officially qualified as an Ambulance Driver on February 8, 2025, after completing the rescue squad’s free training program. In August 2025, he was asked by the LPVRS President to take on the role of Facility Manager at both squad stations, where he has excelled by completing major building projects on time and under budget. David highlights two key accomplishments: becoming an ambulance driver and active member of an EMS crew, and serving successfully as Facility Manager. He credits his fellow crew members for helping him develop his skills and values the relationships he has built through the squad. Some of David’s most memorable experiences include overseeing the completion of challenging facility projects and being recognized for his efforts. David is a retired Marine with 22 years of service in Marine Aviation, including positions at the Harrier Program Office and the Presidential Helicopter Program. He is also an Eagle Scout, a private pilot, and considers the rescue squad his main hobby. When asked what advice he would give his younger self, David said he would have considered becoming a doctor, as recommended by his family. He describes EMS as a rewarding, if unconventional, pathway into the medical field and encourages anyone interested to visit LPVRS and consider volunteering as a way to serve the community.
Bridget Wimberly joined LPVRS in October 2010. She balanced her commitment to the squad with attending high school and college, as well as working full-time with St. Mary’s County. Bridget has served as an officer for several years and is known for her support of new members. Her dedication and leadership have made her a significant asset to the organization.

Volunteer opportunities go beyond direct emergency response roles and include positions on fundraising committees and other support activities. In most cases, all required training is provided at no cost, and there are roles available for individuals with varying interests and skills. |
